Trying to decide between Printful vs Printify?
If you’re looking to build a print on demand business, then it’s a pretty important decision to make. It sucks to have a bad experience with any service you work with, let alone having to make the switch between services, which is always a headache.
So to help you make the best possible decision, I’m going to compare Printful vs Printify for you.
I’m going to compare everything from integrations and capabilities to pricing and fulfillment. No stone will be left unturned. That way, you’ll have the confidence to pick the best one for your print on demand business.
Let’s do this.
Printful vs Printify: How Do They Work?
Funny enough, even though there are many differences between Printful vs Printify, they have one big thing in common. They’re both services for print on demand businesses. Of course, the differences between them can make or break your decision.
With Printful, you directly have the power to make some of the most popular products people buy. This includes clothing, accessories, bags, home products, and even collectables. All you have to do is use their mockup tool, upload your design, and you can start making sales.
What’s special about Printful though is that they do all of product creation and shipping in-house. In fact, they run production houses in the U.S, Mexico, and Europe. So it’s a great option if you want to go global from the get to.
With Printify, you’re getting a service that puts a little more emphasis on simplifying the product automation process. Like Printful, they have a mockup system that just lets you drag and drop your designs.
Unlike Printful though, they don’t make the products themselves. Instead, they work with a bunch of product providers to handle the actual product and shipping. So if you use Printify, you’re going to be working directly with manufacturers that partner with Printify.
This is great if you want to choose who makes your actual products, while also giving you the freedom to switch to other providers without having to switch from Printful.
Printful vs Printify: Pricing
In ecommerce, margin is everything. But in POD, I would argue it’s even more important. So how a POD service prices themselves can literally make or break your business before it even starts. Luckily, both Printful and Printify are pretty transparent with their fees.
With Printful, you can set up a store for free.
However, Printful offers middle of the road pricing per unit. By “per unit”, I mean they make all of their money on the product and shipping. So if you sell a shirt for $25, they may charge you $10. That means you have a $15 profit margin. The good news is that they have a calculator that allows you to play with different pricing so you can accurately decide what your margin will be.
Printful also allows for personalized brand labels. For example, you can put an outside label on your shirt, which would cost $2.49 per label. Another example is an embroidered logo, which would cost $2.95 per placement. Considering how much brands and logo’s play such a big part in perceived quality, it’s a worthwhile investment in some cases.
Printify plays by different rules.
With Printify, you can still set up a store for free. However, you also have the option to upgrade into 2 more “advanced” plans. With the free plan, you get all the basics for up to 5 stores. With the premium plan, you also get a 20% discount on all ordered products, plus you can personalize your products. The enterprise plan comes with a dedicated support team.
All in all, Printify is definitely the cheaper of the two services.
Printful vs Printify: Integrations
There’s no such thing as a good print on demand service without exhaustive integrations. Why? Because you can’t sell your products without them. So you’re going to want a service that has all of the integrations you need today AND tomorrow.
Of the two, Printful by far has the best list of integrations.
Not only can they handle Shopify and Woocommerce, but also…
Printify, on the other hand, is much more limited.
They can integrate with Shopify and Woocomerce. As for marketplaces, they’re limited to just eBay and Etsey.
Printful vs Printify: Fulfillment and Shipping Costs
In a world with 2 day shipping, customers will not let slow shipping times slip by. You can ruin or elevate a customer’s entire experience based on this factor alone, so you want a print on demand service that will help do the latter.
Printful is transparent with their process.
Basically, it can take anywhere between 2-7 business days to make the products. From there, it will take an additional 4 days or so to get the product to your customer’s hands. All of it is handled by the major carriers like DHL, Fedex, and USPS.
As for pricing, when it comes to the U.S, customers will only have to pay $3.99 for shipping 1 product. If there is an additional product in the order, it will cost $1.25 more.
Printify is less transparent than Printful, unfortunately.
When it comes to their shipping times, it can take anywhere between 7-15 days to get a product into your customer’s hands. And if you’re trying to do international, good luck. Depending on where you’re shipping, it can take up to 30 days. That’s an entire month of just shipping.
As for pricing, there’s no information.
Printful vs Printify: Product Quality
At the end of the day, the most important factor behind the success of your POD store is going to be the quality of your product. Most importantly, the printing quality.
Printful has invested $20MM in their printing quality.
This includes Kornet series printers and inks, Happy and Tajima embroidery machines, SubliJet HD ink for mugs, Epson series printers, Mimaki UV printers, Mimaki series printers, and more. In other words, when it comes to product quality, Printful is a great choice.
Printifiy, if you remember, doesn’t do their own printing.
They let you decide who to work with within their network of manufacturers. Unfortunately, many people have experienced lower quality production, such as fading and cracking. Suffice to say, if quality is a big factor to you, then Printify is not the right option.
Printful vs Printify: Final Verdict
If you want cheap, go with Printify.
If you want to go with a print on demand service that’s going to deliver great products, deliver them fast, and help you build a strong brand, then you’re going to want to go with Printful.
They have the best production capabilities. They can get stuff in any of the major carries, faster. Integrations with tons of other partners is built into the system. Customer service is better. They have much more funding behind them.
It’s a no brainer, really.
Go Printful or go home.
